Day 9 - Commit an Act of Kindness. In your own space, share what you’ve done, talk about what you’ve done.

I am a Sensei-Dai at my karate school, which means, I’m the head of all the Sensei teachers in the school. It’s a very high honor and I’m the only student in our school to hold the Dai part in teaching titles.

Knowing the material the students need to work and work on, I went up to a student that is very shy and helped work with him on a kata that he is just learning. Now, most people would say, “Aren’t you suppose to do this anyway.” Yes and no. Knowing the students helps a teacher know what would best work for a student to help them accomplish their next ranking by knowing their personality and understanding who they are as a person. This student is willing to learn and is always focused during class but gets shy and nervous when he is called to answer a question or ask for help. He was able to feel more confident in knowing the kata and practiced it a few times after class was over to work on it. He has come so far and he deserves a medal for his courage.

Day 12 - In your own space, create your own challenge.

Well, what can I say, I love challenges but they don’t like me. I run a community that offers monthly word challenges throughout the year.

I’ve wanted to take part in more big bang challenges and reserve challenges, but the issue I face as a writer is the assigned word count.

I would love to create a challenge that must include a supernatural creature into the fic and artwork. I would love for it to be a big bang challenge without an assigned word count. Not that 20K words are hard to reach or anything, but as someone who is very anxious over word count it can be a challenge to reach. The challenge would have artist and writer sign-ups for a month, writers have 4 months to work on the fic, then have claims for a weekend, the artist will have two months to work. Pairs will then pick a date when to post at the 7th-month mark. Posting will happen from 7th month to 9th month. This will give artists time to create and writers to finalize their final draft with a beta.

Day 11 - In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it?

This is a hard one to answer. I’m still figuring it out myself. When I get an idea for a fic, I tend to write it down or open a new document on the computer. Then I just start to write and I let the characters guide me as much as I can and they allow.

I struggle with motivation and completing something. I attempt challenges but then I end up stepping away and dropping them due to assigned word count. Once I get the word count in my head I start to panic and begin to fluff the story up with information that does not need to be in the story at all or it’s not even important to the main storyline. I am well aware of the plot line I want to share but it’s all inside my head.

I’ve started to write down notes and make some sort of outline to stay focused on the main story I want to share. I’m working on just writing and getting the story completely before I edit my way through the story and then finish it. I’m hoping to my more outlines and guides for myself for my future fics to help me stay on target with my story and focus on the main storyline. Try not to put so much into the story all at once but to ease it all into the story from beginning to end.

I get very excited once I’ve finished a fic and ready to post. And that’s all that matters to me. As much as I would love comments and kudos it’s not the end game for me. I just want to write and get better over time and share stories that I enjoy writing and sharing with others.
