I'm so sorry to hear this! My experience is the opposite. I'm writing on a macbook that is so old that the genius bar workers come around and ask me questions about it like it's some sort of cool antique. I have kids and believe me, we ABUSE this thing. I've brought it in to be fixed several times, and most of the time they do the work for free.
We also got a free iPod when we bought it, and the kids use that too- I find it in their beds, in the bathroom, etc, so I know they are not taking especially good care of it.
Yours should not wear out that fast- bring it back, they should replace or fix it.
That is surely something you can take back to the shop though, right? If you lived over here, it would absolutely be covered under sale of goods legislation but I don't know how universal that is...
